The Best Single Malt Scotch Whiskies to Sample on your Holiday
Ardbeg Uigeadail (54.2%)
This whiskey will hit you in the hard way you can expect from a non chill-filtered Islay, with a strong smell of smoke, peat and fresh seawater. Behind the smokiness, you can experience a beautiful woodiness and the sweetness of toffee and sherry – particularly when you add water.
Glen Elgin 12-Year-Old (43%)
This Glen Elgin is balances sweetness and its fruit notes beautifully, with spices reminiscent of gingerbread and sultanas enhancing its malty richness. Glen Elgin’s chic, understated glass and labelling succinctly indicates that you’re in for a treat.
Strathisla 12-Year-Old (40%)
Whilst Strathisla isn’t the choice of Scotch purists, it’s renowned for being highly drinkable. You’ll find this fruity, sweet and malty whiskey incredibly easy to enjoy. Both soft and smooth to drink, you’ll taste pears, apples and some warm spices.
GlenDronach 12-Year-Old (43%)
This is the perfect whiskey if you prefer sweet whiskies over smokier varieties. Toffee and raisin flavours feature heavily in this whiskey that’s matured in Oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximenez casks. GlenDronach is the perfect whiskey to pour just after a large and filling meal.
Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Scottish Barley (50%)
This intense and dry whiskey is full of pepper and a treat if you love peaty, smoky whiskies. This distinctive drink is flowery and almost antiseptic on the nose, but you’ll find the character is bitter, hoppy and reminiscent of burnt vanilla.
Glenfarclas 15-Year-Old (46%)
Glenfarclas is a classic single malt Scotch that true whiskey lovers will really enjoy. Every sip is an experience with the nose and palate evoking sherry and flavours of orange peel, brown sugar, dark chocolate, raisins and just a little bit of bourbon.
Glenmorangie Signet (46%)
Glenmorangie Signet contains mature and new-aged offerings along with high-roast chocolate malt and sherry-aged Glenmorangies for an amazing result. Glenmorangie Signet tastes of Christmas pudding, tiramisu, rich and heavy sugar, chocolate and raisins. When drinking this, you’ll find yourself transported to luxurious leather arm chairs and private members’ clubs.
Any one of these whiskeys are the perfect accompaniment to the end of an adventurous day in the highlands when you stay with Highland Club Direct. To find out more about our luxury self-catered holiday accommodation and to check availability, call us today on +44 (0)800 731 6651.
